DS12B887 is a battery-backed RTC (real-time clock) that was used on motherboards during mid-1990s.

When the internal battery dies, it doesn't keep time or BIOS settings any more.

I have managed to drill one of these RTCs open and resoldered + (plus side) wire to use an external battery (like CR2032).
